Mohali: After witnessing an attractive knock of 67 not out from Parthiv Patel on 4th day of the Mohali test match, selectors are confused whom to select as wicket-keeper for next test match. Will it be fit again Wriddhiman Saha or the baby faced Parthiv? Unable to decide who is the right man for the moment, the selection committee decided unanimously, let Justice Lodha handle this.
Selection committee head Mr. M.S.K. Prasad who was a wicket keeper himself spoke to us anonymously. He said, “There are different yardstick my predecessors have used. Never change a winning team, in that case Parthiv should be retained. But some say class is permanent, form is temporary. Many including Virat has said, Saha is the number one wicket keeper in the country, so he deserves to make a comeback to playing eleven.”
“Both have suffered a lot. Parthiv waited for almost 8-year term of Barack Obama to get over, before he got another life line. Saha also was hanging in there waiting for Dhoni called it a day,” said Prasad who is happy unlike his time the musical chair between wicket keepers are not happening now.
Mr. Prasad said, “It’s not like team does not have any scope for both. As such our batsman are struggling barring even green Virat and super stylish Vijay. On their current batting form, both can get in to playing eleven as pure batsmen only. Though it will not matter much against this hapless English side, but how can we have a test playing eleven which has 4 specialist batsman, 2 keepers and 5 bowlers.”
Mr. Prasad added, “I have played six test matches, couple of our other selectors have played seven test matches in total. We have enough experience of playing at the highest level. We will never shy away from taking tough, unpleasant decisions, but then why we will take? All the tough decision related to Indian cricket, Justice Lodha is taking, so we all agreed in our selection meeting let us handover this case to him”.
In the meantime, Parthiv was googling to know how many days it takes to recover from strained thigh, whereas Saha is checking how the standard of English attack has fallen so much that anyone is able to score against them.
