RCB scored 49, while chasing a total of 132 made by KKR and succumbed to what is the lowest total in IPL history. Nobody double-figures and there were three ducks recorded in the Royal Challengers’ batting. One of them was Kohli. But addressing the press conference after the match, Kohli revealed that their performance was a tribute to Sachin Tendulkar, as Sachin has 49 ODI centuries and RCB wanted to celebrate the great man’s birthday in advance.
Soon after the match our Faking News reporter spoke to Kohli and he had this to say, “Can you imagine a team consisting of Gayle, ABD, myself and Kedar scoring 49 runs in an innings? No, it is not possible and I will tell you the real reason for our poor performance. Today morning in the team meeting, Mandeep told me that its Sachin Paaji’s birthday on 24th and why can’t we be the only T20 team to pay respect to the master blaster. During Sachin’s time limited overs cricket majorly consisted of ODIs and he had scored 49 centuries. I thought why not we score 49 runs and celebrate Sachin’s birthday in advance. Though the defeat has taken us to bottom of the table, we can do that for a person who carried Indian team on his shoulders for 25 years.”
Kohli certainly has a point here. And it reflected on the fact that, by performing poorly for a greater cause, Virat and his boys earned full marks for the fair play award. Currently they are the leaders and the fair play trophy is something the RCB team don’t want to miss out on. They have plans to pay tribute to other greats of the gentleman’s game during the subsequent matches. Our secret sources say that even Vijay Mallya thinks that such an act of generosity by his team can earn him some goodwill points with the Indian government which may help in his acquittal.
