New Delhi. Test opener KL Rahul’s hundred in second test against Sri Lanka has given a great clarity of thought to some ex-members of Indian team regarding their future.
Having given up all hopes of making a comeback into the Indian team, out of flavor Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, have now decided to focus on bagging the role of Indian cricket coach; whenever BCCI decides to fill up that position.
“With Dhawan, Murali Vijay and KL Rahul going all guns blazing, we might as well say goodbye to our dreams of making a comeback and be realistic unlike Zaheer Khan,” Sehwag confirmed the development, “And instead try to focus on getting something where there is still no permanent resource.”
“Position of chief aggressor and abuser in the squad is also already taken by Virat Kohli. So I can’t even pitch for that. So it makes sense for me to eye something which is still up for grabs,” Gambhir too confirmed the development.
Incase BCCI holds to Ravi Shastri till next year under the pretext of getting the right candidate for the role, both Sehwag and Gambhir then intend to use next IPL season as a platform to showcase their coaching skills to the world.
We are already in talks with our respective IPL teams for a coaching stint next year. Either ways batting and scoring runs there is not earning us any brownie points like Rohit,” Gambhir told Faking News.
Sources close to Sehwag claim that he is uncertain of even getting drinks duty in all IPL matches so he thought it was better if he offered his services to his franchise KXIP for coach’s job.
When our reporter told them that like Shane Warne they both could continue to be a part of their IPL teams’ playing 11, while also being a coach, an irritated Sehwag shot back, “Gambhir can afford a Warne type arrangement, since he is the captain of KKR and instrumental member of the squad. I can’t do that. I have a simple funda ‘see the ball hit the ball’. It will get confusing for me to be both batsman and coach as I might end up hitting all lose deliveries myself instead of players I am coaching.”
