Mumbai: As soon as England team landed in Mumbai to play a five match test series against India, they got another piece of bad news. Rohit Sharma, the batsman the English bowlers were looking forward to bowl, has been ruled out for six to eight weeks due to an injury in his thigh muscle tendon.

Trevor Bayliss, head coach of England cricket team while speaking to us, said, “There could not have been a bigger blow for us. First Anderson pulled out, now Rohit Sharma. One wicket which my team was counting we will get easily as often Rohit gives it away to make match interesting. Now we have to put extra effort to earn the wicket who will replace him in the eleven. It will be a long winter for us.”

When we pointed out that the team has been announced for first two tests and Rohit might come back for later part of series, Trevor said, “We all know he is out for full series. To soften the blow, they have said something like this. Probably BCCI was scared that we might put an excuse like situation at the border is tense, let us postpone the series till some luck comes our way like Ashwin or Virat getting injured and Rohit getting fit.”

“After Bangladesh series, now everyone knows how we play spin, that’s the reason Indian team has filled the team with four spinners. Looks like after a white wash of 4-0 for Australia, Indian team is hell bent on inflicting a 5-0 on us. You can judge their confidence from the news that they have given DRS a green signal for this series,” said Trevor.

“Rains will not save us as hardly any test in these conditions goes beyond three days. I am more excited on the Lodha committee vs BCCI fight and the growing tension at the India-Pakistan border. Just hope something good works out for my team, we get a chance to catch an early flight well before Christmas,” said Trevor on the query what is best case for England.

In the meantime, one of the close friends of Rohit Sharma told us, “He has assured Mumbai Indian’s management that he will be fighting fit before IPL starts. He is sad that he has lost out on some valuable practice for IPL by not able to play this series, but he will make it up.”
