Mumbai. Unhappy that the whole of India was debating if Barfi was the right choice for Oscar nomination, management guru and thinker Prof. Arindam Chaudhuri has called for an immediate end to this craving for foreign recognition.
“Dare to think beyond the Oscars!” Prof. Chaudhuri gave a clarion call for discovering the diamonds in our desi movies and to abandon the great Indian dream of winning an Oscar award.
He further suggested that India should give thorns to competition and challenge the Oscars by introducing the Best Foreign Film category in domestic awards.
“Why should Barfi beg for being the Best Foreign Film at the Oscars?” he argued, “Let The Dark Knight Rises beg for a Filmfare award! In fact, let’s already give them the award. We should count our chickens before they hatch!”
When asked how he would ensure that the Hollywood producers actually send their movies for the Indian awards, Prof. Chaudhuri said his experience in convincing parents to send their students to IIPM could come in handy.
“Organizations like Filmfare should heavily advertise that they were ahead of the Academy Awards and Golden Globes,” he suggested, “Filmfare is run by Times of India group. They can offer free
laptops full page ads for Hollywood movies sending their nominations.”
“Simple!” he added.
