Bengaluru: CEO of an IT company was upset after he came to know entire HR team had gone on vacation almost a week before Diwali and most of them will be returning back to office in the 2nd week of January.

“Today morning I was looking for a meeting with HR team to know what all they are planning at office for Diwali celebration. As it takes a while to get response from them through emails, walked in to their cubicles, saw no one was there. As I was in a hurry, called my office boy to check if they were at the cafeteria,” said CEO of the company, who did not want to be named for the sake of his company and HR team’s prestige.

The office boy told him, “Sir, last Friday when the HR team members were leaving for the day, they wished me for Diwali, Christmas and New Year in one shot. I thought, getting bus or train tickets close to Diwali is tough, some of them might be leaving one week in advance. Diwali wishes were ok, I was bemused why they were wishing me for Christmas and New Year.”

Office boy added, “I told them Sir, I have lot of work and I will be at office every day, why you all are wishing me now? They laughed at me and said they will not be there. One of the HR team member (name withheld to respect privacy) was asking Praveen Sir (HR manager) can he come after Makar Sankranti as it is an important festival in his home town.”

“For last one week I was out for a business trip, so no one got a chance to wish me. Now as Head of the company, the least I can do for my engineers who slog day and night, is to decorate the office for Diwali, throw one office party so that they get a chance to wear their kurtas and lehengas. Will hire some temporary contractors from outside to do all this,” said the CEO.

“Now I am thinking to grant entire HR team permanent leave so that they can enjoy next year Holi, Ganesh Puja and Dussehra also. For HR work, I will engage few contractors on need basis,” said the CEO with a firm tone.
