Mughalsarai: There are large number of railway commuters who pay ‘much’ more than the ticket price, in return what they get. Countless hours they stand near the stinking toilets waiting for the TTEs to come there to give them a berth, if not at least allow them to be inside the coach so that they can make their own arrangement. In return, they handover the hefty ‘commission’ amount TTEs ask for their ‘favor’.
We spoke to Pankaj Adkoli, a regular railway commuter who has stood many hours near the toilets or followed the TTE from one end to other end of the platform many times. He said, “Just tell me, in this world which service is there where in spite of paying so much, you are shown no respect like the railway TTEs behave with us.”
“This is so awful. There are times after getting a berth far from the toilets, I will not be able to sit peacefully or sleep. Because I would have stood through the ‘smell’ for so long, would feel like I am missing something. It takes time for the body to get adjusted,” said Pankaj.
Pankaj added, “Boss, when everyone knows being a government official you will do nothing for free even for your family members, why this ‘Lukka Chuppi’ with us. Why to make such face and repeatedly say us ‘go away & there are no berths, train is full’ when we will be politely standing behind you inside train or on the platforms. They just want to see our ‘commitment’ and how hard it is to get a berth inside means how much ‘donation’ you have to pay on that day’.
Pankaj is most annoyed because this is such a service there is no scope for bargain. Whatever TTE ask for hapless commuters need to pay by hard cash.
Pankaj gave warning to TTEs, said, “Show us some respect. At least give us a proper place to sit far from the toilets when the ‘transaction’ is done. We have a new railway board chairman and new railway minister who claim to change everything for railways. If we go to them, you will have tough time.”
