Arun Jaitley gets mobbed at a Delhi restaurant, asked to explain GST

23, Jun 2017 By @jurnoleast

Finance MInister Arun Jaitley was mobbed inside a Delhi restaurant by patrons yesterday evening, who wanted him to explain to them the concept of GST.

Mr. Jaitley was at Bukhara with his family and feasting himself on Pudina Paranthas when suddenly patrons started crowding around him. Most of them wanted to ‘understand GST’ and thought that the Finance Minister would be the best person to clear doubts.

In no time word spread around and soon a mob gathered outside the restaurant, all wanting to know what GST actually is. Though Mr. Jaitley tried his best to simplify the concept and explain how GST benefits the economy, the crowd was increasing getting restless. Sensing trouble, the restaurant manager sneaked the Finance Minister from the rear exit.

“The crowd here reminded me of the ones at Rajiv Chowk metro station during a breakdown. Some of them were asking him for the full form while others wanted to know if alcohol will become costly after 1st July. After this incident I don’t think Mr. Jaitley is stepping outside the house till GST is fully implemented,” said a source close to the development.

According to a report almost 80% of the population is clueless about GST and how it will impact their lives. All they know is that the it will be implemented by end of this month and few things are going to get costlier.

“People have still not recovered from demonetization. They don’t know what is going to happen. Will they have to exchange notes again,” questioned a city businessman with a quizzical look on his face.

The national capital itself has seen a 200% rise in coaching classes offering crash course on GST.

City based car dealer Dalbir Dolly Singh is one such student of a neighborhood coaching class, but his reason for being part of it was entirely different. “Last week I was at a party and the discussion was around GST. Everyone was showing off their knowledge and I had absolutely nothing to contribute. By God badi insult ho gayi thi uss din,” he said, while letting out his plans to throw a party to show off his GST knowledge.
