Kolkata. President Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee might have drawn a lot of flak for his “dented and painted women” statement, but he has won a bet from Congress leader Digvijay Singh, where Diggi Raja had challenged him to come up with a super senseless statement by the end of the year.
“70 lakhs rupees!” a visibly happy Abhijit Mukherjee told Faking News about the prize money, “We had a bet among themselves on who can make the most senseless statement by the end of the year, and I won after Arnab Goswami thrashed me on Times Now.”
The other leaders, apart from Abhijit Mukherjee, who took up the challenge were Sushil Kumar Shinde, Manish Tewari, Sriprakash Jaiswal, Beni Prasad Verma, and Kapil Sibal. Each one of them contributed 10 lakhs each as the cumulative prize money.
“Nobody gave me a chance as all others were heavyweights and had made statements that were as good as any made by Digvijay Singh,” Abhijit revealed how he proved to be a dark horse.
“I feel like Ravindra Jadeja!” the President’s son said, comparing his performance with the cricketer’s totally unexpected triple century.
Abhijit refused to disclose if this challenge would continue in the next year.
“Frankly, I don’t know,” he said, “You should ask Digvijay Singh and the other stalwarts. They had been issuing statements as if the world would end in 2012 and they won’t have to face any consequences. I just joined it for fun.”
“Now that the world has not ended, I’m not sure of the Digvijay Singh’s strategy,” he added.
Around the same time Abhijit Mukherjee got an SMS. It was from Digvijay Singh, and it read, “Don’t be too happy. I’ll be back! Wanna bet again?”
