Mumbai. After Congress admitted to have given an interest-free loan of 90 crore rupees to Associated Journals Pvt Ltd for running newspapers founded by Jawaharlal Nehru, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has approached the party for similar loan to produce a movie that promotes values founded by Mahatma Gandhi.
“Congress is not just about Jawaharlal Nehru, it can’t ignore Mahatma Gandhi,” argued Sanjay Dutt, who starred in the movie Lage Raho Munnabhai that popularized Gandhian values in shape of Gandhigiri.
“If the party can financially support efforts to promote Nehruvian values, it should also support Gandhian values,” he said.
The Bollywood actor informed that he had decided to remake the 2006 superhit movie to promote Gandhian values, and he wanted Congress to help him with this noble cause by offering interest-free loan.
However, Congress has refused to help Munnabhai aka Sanjay Dutt.
“Bollywood movies are commercial ventures made to earn profits,” Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi claimed, “Our intention was not to earn profits that’s why we gave an interest-free loan to Associated Journals Pvt Ltd in lieu of nine crore shares valued at 10 rupees each.”
“Even Young Indian, the company owned by Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi that later acquired Associated Journals Pvt Ltd, is a Section-25 company i.e. a non-profit company,” Dwivedi pointed out.
Butt Sanjay Dutt, upbeat after all cases against him were withdrawn by the Uttar Pradesh government yesterday, says this is not any problem.
“Who is talking about profits here? We can make a not-for-profit movie if that’s the criteria for giving loans,” Dutt said, “Let them given us the money, and we will use it up all to meet production costs and professional payments; no profits guaranteed.”
“In fact, I’ve requested Raju Hirani not to direct the remake,” Dutt further said, “I’m planning to rope in Ram Gopal Varma to direct the remake of Lage Raho Munnabhai. This will ensure that the movie earns no profits at all, just like RGV Ki Aag, the remake of Sholay.”
“And dude, even my father was a Congress leader,” Sanjay Dutt pointed out, “Congress upholds dynastic values and they must give me interest-free loan.”
However, Congress is still not convinced. Janardan Dwivedi fumbled to come out with a convincing answer over why Sanjay Dutt should not be given interest-free loan for making a not-for-profit movie that aims to promote Gandhian values.
“Will Sanjay Dutt show Narendra Modi’s wife in the movie? Of course not! So why should we give loan?” Congress leader Digvijay Singh came up with an explanation after Dwivedi gave up, but it didn’t sound too convincing to us.
But sources in Congress claim that the party was not too keen to promote Gandhian values as Anna Hazare could be the next person to ask for an interest-free loan.
