Mumbai. After Andhra Pradesh High Court ruled that BCCI was wrong in imposing a life ban on Mohammad Azharuddin, the board has decided to compensate the loss of reputation of the former cricketer by renaming the upcoming India-England test series as Azharuddin Trophy.

“We offered him a place in the current team so that he’s able to play his 100th test match, but Azhar said no to that,” BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla told Faking News.

While Shukla claimed that Azhar refused a place in the team because of lack of match-practice, sources claim that Azhar, who is also a Congress MP, decided to do so because didn’t want to travel to Gujarat where the first test match takes place in Ahmedabad.

“Azhar was worried that he might be blamed by the party members if Congress failed to do well in the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections,” sources tell Faking News, “In Congress, the success is credited to Sonia Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi, while failure could be attached to anyone.”

However, both Mohammad Azharuddin and Rajiv Shukla, also a member of Congress, rejected such reports.

“These are all baseless and malicious reports,” Shukla said, “Azhar is not ready to play any match and the BCCI also thought that the best way to undo the losses of Azhar would be to name the current series after him.”

When asked how could BCCI rename an existing series while it had turned down a similar request from Sharmila Tagore to rename the series as Pataudi Trophy, Shukla said, “The two cases can’t be compared. We didn’t get any request from Sangita Bijlani.”

“Also, we take our own decisions and don’t like outside interference,” Shukla added.

Experts claim that this is just the beginning, and after this clean chit by the court, Azharuddin could be made the head of the Anti-Corruption Unit of the BCCI.

“It will go well with the current scheme of the things in the country,” Katrina Khurshid, an expert said.
