New Delhi. Union Minister Kapil Sibal has blamed the British rulers of the pre-Independence era for the massive loot of country’s wealth, which has resulted in unequal distribution of resources among the citizens of India. However, Sibal didn’t categorically term this “loot” as any “crime” or “corruption” as the Supreme Court had not passed any explicit verdict condemning the loot, which has been going on ever since India got independence.

Sibal was reacting to the criticism by various commentators who claim that the governance in India has not changed much ever since the Britishers left. Many laws framed during the British era are still in place and so is the mindset of those who are in power.

Gore angrez chale gaye aur kaale angrez aa gaye” (black Englishmen have replaced the white Englishmen after Independence) was one of the comments left by a person called Anna Hazare, which had led to the criticism.

While the original commentator couldn’t dwell upon his theory, various other experts agreed that the basic system and idea of governance has remained the same as was put in place by the British rulers – which was aimed at welfare of the principals rather than welfare of the subjects.

“We are just following the policy that was set up by our predecessors,” Kapil Sibal defended the outlook of the governments after independence, most of which were formed by the Congress party.

When asked if the government didn’t find the policy set by the British rulers unjust, Sibal almost blamed the founding fathers of the nation.

“We retained much of the British system of governance, including a substantial part of the constitution,” Sibal pointed out.

“No, Jawaharlal Nehru can’t be blamed for that,” he clarified, giving clean chit to the first Prime Minister of India.

The Union Minister said that the government would stop following the British rulers’ policies only if the Supreme Court passed an order declaring those policies unfair and flawed. In absence of any such ruling, the government will continue to follow the old policies, which many term as “loot”.

“You may term it as loot, but this is just notional,” Mr. Sibal said with a heavy tone and heavier eye-brow, “There is zero loss as the wealth is not going outside India, definitely not to England. Our Queen is no longer in London, but in Delhi.”

“President Pratibha Patil! Not Sonia Gandhi,” Sibal clarified to a question put by Faking News reporter.

Does our country need perfect politicians or perfect people -?

This is the question posed to me by one of my friends from youth… really a thought-provoking question in deed! and I replied as follows…

Dear Mr. Kumar ! Nice that you raised the point.. Our efforts should be to be as nearer as possible towards perfection… Comparison becomes imminent in this competitive world. Let us compare with the countries whose governance is better than ours ..? the following clipping would throw some light as to the level of saturation we attained over a period of time since the so called independence and lead the entire world….. A very shameful feature…. The following is my reaction in one of my write-ups:

Indians top the list among the world combine in Black Money holdings in Swiss/Foreign Banks:
Is this the independence we needed ? Is this the one for which Mahatma and many others made several sacrifices for our Independence? With what name we should address those Indians who beat the world record in holding their black- money in Swiss Banks aggregating to 1500 Billion US dollors? Can there be a better term than “Traitors”?. It is unfortunate, It is these “Traitors” and their proxies who were/are controlling the Governments in the past and present too.
According to the data provided by the Swiss bank, India has more black money than rest of the world combined. India topping the list with almost $1500 Billion black money in swiss banks, followed by Russia $470 Billion, UK $390 Billion, Ukraine $100 Billion and China with $96 Billion.
It’s embarrassing for any country to top the list of black money holders. The money which belongs to the nation and it’s citizens, is stashed in the illegal personal accounts of corrupt politicians, IRS, IPS officers and industrialists. An amount which is 13 times larger than the nations foreign debt. Every year this amount is increasing at a rapid speed but the Indian government seem to be silent over this matter from a very long time. The total black money accounts for 40% of GDP of India, if all the money comes back to India then that could result in huge growth burst for India.
A nation where more than 450 million live below the poverty line, which means they make less than $1.25/day. By bringing back the black money back to the country there is so much which can be done for the development of the nation and the people who live below poverty line. India will also be able to clear all their foreign debts in 24Hrs. Even if all the taxes are abolished, the government can maintain the country easily for 30 years.
It’s been found that about 80 thousand people travel to Switzerland every year of whom around 25 thousand travel frequently. Those travelling on regular basis must be doing it for some reason.
The Indian government needs to take some serious steps to get the money back to India which is stashed in Swiss banks. They should work to find out the names of account holders in Swiss banks and also pressurize Swiss bank to get the black money back to the country. This has also become a matter of pride of nation and if the government still keeps silence about this issue then they will only be making themselves a laughing stock for the entire world.
Is this the type of independence we aspired ? Is this the one for which Mahatma and many others made several sacrifices for our Independence? With what name we should address those Indians who beat the world record in holding their black- money in Swiss Banks aggregating to 1500 Billion US dollars? Can there be a better term than “Traitors”?. It is unfortunate, It is these “Traitors” through their proxies who were/are controlling the Governments in the past and present too. This (stashed black money in swiss banks) is the resultant factor of various “scams” experienced by our country since the so called “political independence”.
Is this type of independence we needed….? Historically, our country has been subjected to looting by foreign invaders who took away our wealth on massive scales over a period of time. At least, we could see some logic in their looting. But instantly, it is our own country men who have been indulging in looting the country even after we proudly claim independence – that is the irony. Political independence has no relevance without economic independence. With mounting “hawala transactions” which synonymously co-exist with terrorism, lot of black money has been siphoned out of the country day in and day out. Thus, the economic independence of our country has been put at stake.
“Discipline and efficiency shall always percolate down the hierarchy” – be it a Government, or an organization run with or without profits – a universally applicable principle. This needs no further explanation. Such being the fact, unless discipline is inculcated in the so called “law makers” including the head of the state, it cannot be effectively percolated down the stream at all levels to ensure clean and effective administration. If not for this purpose, for what else any government worth its name should at all exist?

Let us think it over seriously….. I am of the strong opinion that — it is high time that we should have a sea-change in the existing political system in the country. Let the President of the country and the respective state Governors be elected directly by the electorate together with MPs/MLAs. Let the elected President/respective state Governors choose their own council of ministers (NO PM/CM) from out of the elected legislators to run the Governments. Further, Rajya Sabha and State Legislative Councils should be abolished to restrict the back-door entry of politicians besides saving lot of tax payers money/public exchequer. There would be no scope for conflicting situations arising out of clashes between President/Governor and Prime Minister/Chief Minister as in the existing system. Both President and respective State Governors will be powerful and effective as they do enjoy the direct mandate of the electorate. No one should hold the same post beyond two terms in office. With this we can expect improvisation in the political system to a considerable extent. Leadership cannot be thrust upon the people much against the majority wish WHICH IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR. Let us seriously apply our minds and debate in various forums cutting across the barriers of cast , creed, community, religion, gender, age etc. etc. and make it a wide public debate through all the available media. Youth being the torch-bearers for the prosperity of the posterity, should be encouraged to take lead to reach out the masses at the grass-root level to solicit their support and where as the senior citizens should extend all out support to the youth in their endevours in this behalf to transform this idea into a ground reality.

    • Absolutely true sir… absolutely true….. We have attained the political independence-true but in no way have we attained the economic independence. Infact we are going backward day-by-day.

If we have a closer look into the system i totally blame the congress mismanagment and purposeful loot that is doing no good to the nation. Infact putting the nation back. This they are doing at the cost of religious politics, caste based reservation – in total a divide and rule game. This is totally uncalled for and is doing nothing but enraging the masses gradually.

I am not against any political party as such but I feel that these policies of congress should change if they need to rule correctly. Else we are going to plunge into darkness soon.
